In this video I’ll demonstrate an interesting feature of Ableton: MIDI Remote Scripting. This allows you to use a MIDI controller, in our case the Nocturn, to access the first 8 Controls of a focused Device in Ableton. This is a similar feature to the Track Control section on the Akai APC40. You can read more about it here: nckn.de & here: createdigitalmusic.com I’ve uploaded the edited script and Automap Settings here: www.sendspace.com As I mention in the video, being able to instantly access Device Controls is fantastic when working in the studio, however I prefer hard mapped controls when performing so I know what’s what.
I’m having trouble figuring out how to instant map my korg microKONTROL. Do you have any tips for me?
thanx again…..
great tutorial .. thanks man
1 question though .. how do I assign the focus up n down, the browser and the select devices in the track view using the consor ? Please help.. Using your midi script template, I managed to set up My old evolution controller.. its great man ! using the Macro’s too.. just great !
but how to set up them key strokes ? d browser n focus?
thanks again fletch
Cheers mate
Can i use Launchpad with Remote??
Massive thanks to Fletchmusic & Nicken for this
Just worked out focus up & down question below. Basically just load the novation control map in the info, or manually map the buttons to alt-up and alt-down (doesnt seem to be in ableton help keyboard map reference,
To focus on browser u need alt-left as well so to do this using nocturn control map, hold down the browser toggle button, press focus-up & use the (assigned) arrow key buttons to browse. Hope is useful & props to fletchmusic
Load the novation control map in the info mate. Or manually map the buttons to alt up and alt down. It doesnt seem to be in ableton help or at least i couldnt find it either
hi, sorry, i just followed the links from the info box. questions answered. thanks and good work.
hi. i have my nocturn installed and assigned in ableton prefs, but the automap doesnt seem to be working, as in the blue hand is on the device but the 8 rotaries on nocturn do nothing. plus what are the inital shortcuts for focus up and focus down? i have never heard of those. great vid btw.
I love your vids …….very informative! Thank You
great vid… could you explain macro controls please????
Fletch you are amazing thanks for your videos.. although i could not imitate the same commands on my ableton. i dont know it this setting can be used on ableton LE. And also, how did u set up the resampling.. i couldnt.. i kinda new to launchpad/ableton..
works really good for me. but there is one thing, i cant find the shortcut for your focus up and focus down button. which shortcut or keycommand did you use? would be nice if you could tell me how you do this.
i have some idea what you could do in another way. if you press the start button you will start everytime from 0.0.0.0 but if you use the shortcut shift+space for start it start from the point where you stoped. if you wannt to play from the beginning just press stop two times. just a idea
very interesting. but can you switch banks with the nocturn to access the live instruments settings via instant mapping?
I have discovered a list in the reference-section of the live-help and every ableton device has 8 paramenrs in 8 banks: if the controller can switch banks.
Fabtastic! I think thats my Answer, I currently have a Bitstream, but feel pretty frustrated with trying to create perfect projects with devices and mappings right.
This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for. I just got my Launchpad today and I’ve been trying to figure out a good way to avoid remapping everything all the time in Ableton with my Nocturn. This is fantastic!
Nocturn FTW! Search for guille’s nocturn midi remote script on the Ableton forum. It kicks so much ass!
OSX 10.5.8 -LIVE 8.0.8- AutoMap 3.3 Over Here
Very Interesting! I Just got the combo. Do I need AutoMap Pro ? to run the scrip ? Only second transport controls seem to work. thkx!
best combo ever…totally getting both
