Korg Radius Acid Test

Written by Admin on April 25th, 2010

Me messing around with a 303ish patch on the radius I cooked up. Gear: Korg Radius-R: Bass line Axiom 25: Controlling Ableton Ableton: Drums and MIDI out to Radius. dbx 266xl compressor… compressing Yamaha mg10/2 mixer… mixering Effects: Compression on everything, and reverb on bass line from the radius’ internal fx. Wow my hands are really twitchy while doing this… Sorry about the quality I recorded the video with a hand held point-and-shoot camera.

Nice improv. The Radias sounds like it’s worth having.

This was a test, not anything serious, just messing around with a bass line I had made in another project. I plan on putting up some serious stuff in the future but it will probably be a while…

I enjoy synths but you cant allow the synth to play you you should put some personality give a melody some lyrics a story and use differnt synths to create your own style Like Vince Clark and Andy bell Yes I know there music is all gay and camp but not all of there songs sounds like a beat it has breaks and points of intrest with story and feeling not just another thump thump and a tweek if cant let the synth play you , You should play it build your own musical soul and personality lovely.

I know that sounds awkward, a lot of awkward stuff was done in the old days before everyone went digital mostly :s but I’ve just got the desire to do everything midi still atm, and off pc.. avoiding a mixture of midi and pc audio. Plus the sampler has a lot of tools to manipulate the sounds and it has multiple audio outs. The SH-101 is wicked, you will love it, you can get all kinds of creative shit out of it. Of course if I run out of onboard sampler space then I’ll have to use pc based audio!

thanks, the gear hasnt had enough use yet, been sitting mostly idle for a number of years, trying to get my shit together lol.. I suppose you could always sample a sidechained loop, then use the compressor for the final master? If the sound was coming from the sampler, not sure if you can trigger midi and record at the same time on the yamaha though, could always record the sidechained sample into sound card I guess, then transfer that sample to the sampler.

  7. srymusic says:

yeah. I don’t really use sidechain compression outside the box, but yeah you would need another one. Oh and your gear list is amazing. I’m saving for the sh101 atm.

  8. mysterizedoutcast says:

since you can only operate the 266xl in dual mono or stereo mode, if you wanted to do sidechain on something then you would be using one of the channels up, so you wouldnt be able to use the compressor for final mastering because you would need stereo from mixer, therefore a 2nd compressor would be needed. Correct? hmm :|

Thanks for the reply man I really appreciate it :o ) I’ve got a behringer mixer, tb303, sh101, novation drumstation, super bass station, yamaha a3000 sampler, some effects stuff, trying to keep everything running ext and only use pc for midi sequencing. Need compressor I guess though for best results for final mastering between mixer and pc.

It’s not really essential part of my kit. But I work mainly in the box. This was just kinda having fun with the radius. The dbx is just kinda squishing everything together in this, very very light compression. It sounds great on drums as well. Basically it kind of gels the whole mix or drum set or whatever together. Also it has a gate, which is handy. I definitely recommend it. Next video will be detroit-ish minimal acid-ish techno with the radius and emu 6400 ultra. cheers

Really wicked track.. I am thinking of getting the dbx 266xl, is it an essential part of your set up? can you describe how it affected the end sound of your track and what you did to it? I’ve got some gear, but no compression yet, cant afford to pay a lot, but the 266xl would be in my price range, plus I want to keep it hardware.
