Question by : How to get my arrangement to play in Ableton Live?
New to Live. I had my clips in the session view and then I recorded into the arrangement view. I was having fun editing the arrangement. Then I wanted to go back to the session view to add some more layers. I played the clips in the session view and added some more stuff. The I tried to play the song I laid out in the arrangement view, and it grayed out all the tracks that I laid out. It wont play unless I go back to the session view and play the clips in there, but it’s not in the “arrangement” that I laid out in the arrangement view in the first place. I can’t figure it out. Please help!

Question by : Can’t hear my recording in Ableton Live 8. HELP?
Okay so I’m having a problem with Ableton 8. I recently decided to start producing trance & house music. So here’s the problem. After I record my song everything seems okay. The recording plays back and everything. Then when I make some sort of change to something either in session view or arrangement view [i.e. add a new clip to a MIDI Track, copy/paste a clip from session view to arrangement view and vice versa, turn on the "solo cue" playback my recording and then turn solo off, turn on arrangement recording (not universal recording) so that I can play out a few notes on my computer keyboard to try and create a melody (i can't hear the piano keys unless this is turned on when i play them), or stop a clip] my recording for some reason won’t play. The timeline moves and the clips that I recorded are still part of the timeline except they’re grey and no sound will come out of them. I just don’t understand. It’s like one second everything is fine and I can copy/paste, edit & delete certain things and my recording will play back okay. And then if I make some tiny change my recording no longer plays back, even though all the clips are part of the timeline! This has happened to me numerous times, causing me to go back and re-record/re-do everything!!! Please HELP!

I just had this same problem and it was SO frustrating. But don’t worry it can be fixed! Check to make sure that the “Back to Arrangement” button (just to the right of OVR in the main transport) IS NOT highlighted red. Enabling or disabling this should change the graying-out in the Arrangement (horizontal/DAW view) and you should now be able to play back your live recording that you made. This worked for me and I hope that it works for you too. Good luck and let me know
