Been raining all day and almost set fire to the microwave!…decided to improvise to a drum loop using the Akai APC40 and Ableton Live and a few of my guitars run through Amplitube Fender – Fender Jazz Bass, New Orleans Guitar Co Voodoo Custom, and Gibson Dark Fire. Of course, I get interrupted again, but what else would one expect?

Live looping improv jam using a Moog Prodigy, Akai APC20, Novation Launchpad, M-Audio Oxygen 25, Akai LPD8, and Ableton Live. Nothing’s pre-recorded, all loops are recorded live. Video recorded with a Zoom Q3HD.

Using Max for Live to control the Analog synth instrument in Ableton Live 8. The live.remote~ object passes data at many times the resolution of MIDI (one of the great things about the Wacom tablet and sample accurate modulation from MSP to Ableton Live using the API objects in Max for Live). The Wacom tablet has 5 degrees of hi-res expressive freedom (see below for mappings). Very promising, this is just a quick little study… Cheers. x axis = pitch (tempered) y axis = volume pen pressure =vibrato amount tilt axis y = vibrato rate tilt axis x = detune +/- semitone.

More info + free download @ Dubspot Blog – bit.ly Dubspot Instructor, multi-instrumentalist musician and producer DJ Kiva delivered an exclusive Ableton Live and Akai APC40 performance of a track titled “Guided Dub” in Level 2 of Daniel Wyatt’s Mixing & Mastering class. The song was written in a classic “Steppers” dub style. It showcases mixing techniques developed by dub pioneers such as King Tubby, Mad Professor, and Jah Shaka, and applies these skills in a new context using Ableton Live and the APC 40. DJ Kiva developed a new system of mapping the APC for mixing music, using the clip launch buttons as effect sends, providing the ability to have all effect sends in-line for each channel, as well as access multiple effects at the same time per channel.
