In this video I’ll demonstrate an interesting feature of Ableton: MIDI Remote Scripting. This allows you to use a MIDI controller, in our case the Nocturn, to access the first 8 Controls of a focused Device in Ableton. This is a similar feature to the Track Control section on the Akai APC40. You can read more about it here: nckn.de & here: createdigitalmusic.com I’ve uploaded the edited script and Automap Settings here: www.sendspace.com As I mention in the video, being able to instantly access Device Controls is fantastic when working in the studio, however I prefer hard mapped controls when performing so I know what’s what.

Launchpad & Nocturn – Instant Track Control Using MIDI Remote Scripts
Sunday, April 25th, 2010Dubspot: Max For Live: Sidechain any Device Control
Thursday, April 1st, 2010
This video shows a simple Max For Live Device which allows the user to control any device parameter in Live via volume level. Shown in the video are using a kick drum to modulate the FM amount in Operator, Triggering a reverb’s dry/wet controls from a drum loop and finally, using a synth’s LFO to change distortion controls. The device uses the new MFL object, live.remote~, to manipulate device controls at audio rate, which is much smoother than traditional 128 step midi resolution. Just want to mention that some of the controls in the video don’t run too smoothly, I believe that is because of the processing power that is needed to record the screen cast. When not screen recording the movement of the manipulated controls closely follow the level of audio sidechained to it
