How can I connect my MIDI keyboard for use with Ableton live 8 (pc)?

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Question by Alexander: How can I connect my MIDI keyboard for use with Ableton live 8 (pc)?
I have a Celviano (made by Casio) AP-21 full size digital piano, and have unsuccessfully been trying to hook it up to some music software for several months now.
I have Ableton 8 live now, and a MIDI connection between the piano and my pc, but it is still failing to be recognised. The MIDI device lights up to inform me that information is being sent, but nothing on the pc seems to register it. I have resorted to downloading a Roland driver for the keyboard, as casio do not support 64 bit drivers, so there could be an issue here.
When Ableton is open the MIDI track in indicator does not light up, so I can guess from that that no signal is being recieved by Ableton.
I have configured Ableton’s MIDI preferences to accept my piano (shown as “PC-50 [Roland driver]) as the input device, but have nothing set as the control surface as I can’t work out what this is.
Thanks in advance
