Make sure you’re master output is going to the right place should be something in settings somewhere for it.

If you installed Ableton only to play a track there are many other adequate programs that can do that with less hassle.

In this video, I show just how easy it is to create a basic sound with a bit of filter enveloping and stereo spread in Simpler. The process is quick and easy, and the sound has a bit of animation to make it fun to use while writing your tracks. The point here is that you shouldn’t get bogged down in sound design decisions early on in the song writing process because it’s easy to lose focus and inspiration. Keep the sounds simple and distinguishable while you’re writing, and then come back later to add details and flourishes.

The problem with knowing the signal level in Ableton Live is that you don’t know the actual sound pressure level (SPL) you were exposed to. If the signal was +19db and not amplified very much then it wouldn’t hurt you, but if you had your speakers really cranked then it’s possible.

Listen for signs like ringing that lasts longer than a few hours. Even if you were exposed to a dangerous level there are various factors (age, genetics, previous exposure) that would determine whether or not there would be any lasting effects.

If you are really worried about it go see an audiologist.
